Burnout and Work-Related Stress

Stress and burnout are two variables that are increasingly discussed when it comes to work. The World Health Organization defines burnout as a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. In addition, work-related stress is described as the response people may have when presented with work demands and pressures that are not matched to their knowledge and abilities and which challenge their ability to cope. Participants were asked three questions to gauge their level of burnout, stress and the impact of stress on work.

Respondents indicated that they have experienced feelings of burnout recently, but most didn’t indicate that they feel stress at work or that it has impacted their ability to perform their job well.
