Leading Through Turmoil

Dr. Lindsey Greco — Assistant Professor of Management in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University

Turmoil—either within or outside of an organization—is marked by intense stress, uncertainty, complexity, and disruption. Highly uncertain environments require leaders to think and behave in ways that may be unfamiliar or uncomfortable.

Intended for anyone in managerial or leadership roles, this seminar covers topics and actions that are effective in times of turmoil. Learning objectives include the following: • Learn how to identify and prioritize potential crises • Learn the benefits and strategies for contingency planning

• Understand the different types of crises • Learn four rules of leading in turmoil

Upon completion of Leading Through Turmoil, you will be able to: • Identify potential problematic situations before they become full-blown crises • Develop contingency plans for foreseen and unforeseen sources of turmoil • Adjust their leadership practices to situations marked by high levels of uncertainty and stress

Approximately three hours, this seminar includes leadership-style self-assessment and a survey of risk-taking. Longer sessions can include a role-playing exercise of a crisis situation.

This seminar is sponsored by the Department of Management and the Center for the Future of Work in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University. Participants earn 0.3 continuing education units (CEUs) upon completion of this seminar.
