Lessons From Mount Everest: A Manager’s Guide to Agile Decision-Making in a High-Stakes Environment

This three to four-hour case study uses the dramatic context of a Mount Everest expedition to reinforce learning in group dynamics and leadership. Participants are divided into teams and play different roles on a team of hikers attempting to summit the mountain. A minimum of 15 participants is suggested. Participants must communicate and analyze the information as a team to reach the top. Participants will learn how to build, participate in, and lead teams more effectively. This seminar is sponsored by the Department of Management and the Center for the Future of Work in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University. Participants earn 0.3 to 0.4 continuing education units (CEUs) upon completion of this seminar depending on the length.
