David Carter, Ph.D. Dr. David Carter is the Oklahoma Bankers Association Chair of Commercial Bank Management and Professor of Finance in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University where he teaches corporate finance with an emphasis on Excel spreadsheet applications, entrepre - neurial finance, and commercial bank management. Dave has won several awards for his teaching, including the Regent’s Distinguished Teaching Award, which is the highest teaching award given by OSU. He has been honored with the OSU Outreach Faculty Excellence Award (2019), the Richard W. Poole Faculty Outreach Excellence Award (2018-2019) and the Steve Miller Excellence in Study Abroad Education Award (2018). He is active in a variety of professional organizations and recently served on the Board of Directors for the Eastern Finance Association. Dave has published extensively in academic finance journals and has presented his research at leading academic conferences around the world. His research focuses on risk management and hedging in the airline and banking industries, corporate governance, and commercial bank management. His article “Does hedging affect firm value? Evidence from the U.S. airline industry” received the 2006 Pearson/Prentice Hall Prize for the Best Paper in Financial Management. Dave has been quoted in articles related to hedging in the airline industry in the Economist, the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. Dave has a B.S. in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University, an M.B.A. from Utah State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. Prior to entering academia, Dave worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Questar Pipeline Company.
