Alexis Smith Washington, Ph.D. Dr. Alexis Smith Washington is the Spears School of Business Senior Inclusion Officer, Associate Professor of Management and William S. Spears Chair of Business Administration. Alexis received her doctorate in Organizational Behavior at the A.B. Freeman School of Business of Tulane University and her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rice University. Alexis’s focal research areas span workplace issues such as gender and diversity, as well as bias and discrimination. Currently, Alexis is working on projects that examine the impact of social identities such as gender, race, and sexual orientation on the ways individuals manage their professional image at work and organizational factors that facilitate the inclusion and advancement of underrepresented minorities.

With more than 10 years of experience conducting applied research, Alexis has also consulted for a multi-firm legal services organization, wherein she designed and implemented surveys on female lawyers’ engage- ment, satisfaction and productivity. Through this project, she identified avenues for improving individual productivity and organizational meth- ods for increasing worker empowerment. Additionally, Alexis is currently consulting for Oklahoma’s GRDA to implement leadership training and succession planning procedures. Alexis’s experience and research interests have produced research published in the Journal of Applied Psychology; the Journal of Applied Social Psychology; the Journal of Management; the Journal of Managerial Psychology; the Academy of Management Perspectives; Research in Organizational Behavior; and the European Journal of Work & Organizational Psychology. She had contributed to several edited books including the Handbook of Prejudice and Discrimination and the I nternational Encyclopedia of Organizational Studies .
