Information Assurance for Managers

Dr. James Burkman — Clinical Associate Professor in the Management Science and Information Systems Department in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University

Employees can be the best or the worst of any company’s computer and data security strategy. The difference comes down to education and management. Company managers need to be informed on both a higher and a deeper level than their employees. This seminar teaches managers how to be aware of and evaluate threats by using the language of security professionals. The seminar will cover specific threat categories in detail with two segments on a variety of actionable defense strategies. Managers who take this seminar will be able to be active participants in identifying computer and data security risks and help educate their employees, thus bridging the gap between technical awareness and practical countermeasures. This seminar is sponsored by the Department of Management Information Systems and the Center for the Future of Work in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University. Participants earn 0.4 continuing education units (CEUs) with four hours of presentation with demonstration and interactive participation. Benefits: Managers face an increasing scarcity of time to perform all of their functions. The costs of a computer secu- rity event must include a large portion of time that is required now. This seminar is designed to help managers reduce common, opportunistic computer and data security threats that can be mediated by knowl- edgeable and involved employees. Managers who participate in this seminar will move from being passive actions in the security arena to savvy leaders who can steer their team past the pitfalls of insecure computing. Who should attend: This seminar is designed for managers and employees who need a deeper understanding of computer and data secu- rity. It is all managers, regardless of area of responsibility, because the need for data and computer security is pervasive throughout any organization. » KORN FERRY COMPETENCIES Communicates effectively | Manages complexity | Manages conflict | Self-development | Tech savvy | Optimizes work processes
